Wyoming Volunteer Lawyers Program
Providing
Access to Legal Services for Low to Moderate Income People
What
is the Wyoming Volunteer Lawyers Program (WVLP)?
The Wyoming Volunteer Lawyers Program (WVLP) will try to match a client in
need of civil legal representation with an attorney who is willing to provide
civil legal services at no cost. The volunteer lawyer will offer advice and
consultation, brief legal services and representation in certain cases to
persons living in poverty. Unfortunately, the WVLP will not be able to help
every one who needs an attorney and cannot afford one.
How
does the Wyoming Volunteer Lawyers Program work?
Applications must be submitted in writing.
First, please
fill out the Client Application Form
Then, send it to:
Wyoming Volunteer Lawyers Program
c/o Wyoming State Bar Foundation
P.O. Box 109
Cheyenne, WY 82003-0109
If your total
household income fits our guidelines, the WVLP will contact
you. You will be interviewed and after that, a decision will
be made to determine if your request is appropriate for the
assistance of an attorney, if it fits the program priorities
and if the WVLP has services available to help you.
If your case
involves threat of danger or violence to you or your children,
it does not fall within the WVLP and you should contact
the University of Wyoming College of Law Domestic Violence
Assistance Project right away:

You may not
have a volunteer attorney assigned to your case if you are
not income eligible, if your case is not one of the types
that the program accepts or if more people ask than the WVLP
is able to find attorneys to help.
You will receive
a response within two weeks of receipt of your letter. At
that time you will be notified if a volunteer attorney has
been found for you and how to proceed. If the WVLP is unable
to match you with an attorney, you will be provided with a
list of other agencies and organizations that may be able
to help you.
